To put it bluntly we think generative AI just won’t get it right.

Our entire legal system is based on the premise that your innocence until proven guilty and that it is better to have 100 murderers go free than to have one innocent person go to jail or be executed. AI guidance and statistical likelihoods based on historical (which means flawed) data. Computer scientists simplify this down to the phrase”garbage in, garbage out”.

We think that Generative AI and Predictive Policing should be used more as a tool to rule people out than to rule people in. The problem is we have seen time and time again that the judicial system in general but police on the ground most of all, tend to focus nearly all of their attention on the first viable criminal candidate. This has led to countless miscarriages of justice and wrongful convictions all across the globe. If we’re going to allow generative AI to interact with police data bases we had best get the rules of engagement worked out in advance.
